Padarevo kindergarten is reopening after US, Bulgarian military renovation effort

NOVO SELO TRAINING AREA, Bulgaria – A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Oct. 5 to mark the official reopening of the Vela Peeva Kindergarten in Padarevo. A combined effort of U.S. and Bulgarian construction teams completed a general aesthetic renovation of the kindergarten.

Work was completed by members of the Bulgarian Land Forces’ Center for Preparation of Tank Specialists in Sliven, U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 3 out of Hueneme, Calif., U.S. Army’s 902nd Engineer Company from Schweinfurt, Germany, and a local contractor.

Renovations include new doors and windows, replaced electric lights and switches, installed new bathroom plumbing, wall fixtures and linoleum and floor tile; patched and painted ceiling and walls of classrooms and offices.

The teams are part of a humanitarian civic assistance effort of Joint Task Force-East, a multinational training exercise venue for partner nations currently involving the U.S., Bulgarian and Romanian forces.

2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment arrives at Novo Selo for training

NOVO SELO TRAINING AREA, Bulgaria – U.S. Army 2nd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, out of Vilseck, Germany, begins training here Aug. 19.

The 2nd SCR will train in three cycles following the rotation of U.S. Army Tennessee National Guard 1-181st Field Artillery Battalion. By the end of the final rotation of JTF-E, the whole squadron will have participated.

This unit will be training on fundamental mission tasks with Bulgarian Land Forces helping build military partnerships during this three-week cycle. Each cycle will consist of squad-, platoon- and company-level training of troops. Participants will engage simulated enemies while mounted on and dismounted from Stryker vehicles, which are eight-wheeled armored combat vehicles.

Additionally, troops will conduct live fire zone reconnaissance on selected ranges. Media will be able to observe this training throughout the training area.

JTF-E enables participants to learn from each other and improve their capabilities while improving their own readiness to execute missions throughout the region and across the globe in multinational security operations.

US, Bulgarian forces play soccer against Zimnitsa village

NOVO SELO TRAINING AREA, Bulgaria – A team made of U.S. and Bulgarian troops is playing a soccer game against Zimnitsa players at 6 p.m. on Aug. 22 at the Zimnitsa soccer field.

The military team consists of six U.S. and five Bulgarian members participating in combined training held at Novo Selo Training Area.

Such activities of Joint Task Force-East provide an opportunity for U.S. forces to interact with local communities. They build not only a professional but also a personal relationship with their Bulgarian counterparts.

US, Bulgarian militaries renovate public kindergartens

NOVO SELO TRAINING AREA, Bulgaria – U.S. and Bulgarian construction teams are renovating schools in the municipalities of Zimnitsa, Padarevo, Pirne, and Sungurlare during the months of July through October.

Service members of U.S. Naval Construction Battalion 11 in partnership with Bulgarian Land Forces will soon finish the first project; a renovation of a Zimnitsa kindergarten.

Another project began today at a Padarevo kindergarten; a general aesthetic renovation of the main entrance, classrooms, and restrooms.

These humanitarian civic assistance construction projects are part of Joint Task Force-East, a multinational training venue for partner nations currently involving the U.S., Bulgarian and Romanian forces.

Bulgarian Land Forces instruct U.S. Army National Guardsmen how to fire rocket propelled grenade launchers Aug. 18 at a shooting range here. This training was conducted to share skills on use of each others assault rifles and Bulgarian anti-tank weapons.

Bulgarian Land Forces members of 1st Company of Yambol, Mechanized Battalion, 2nd Infantry Brigade, trained U.S. Army Tennessee National Guard 1-181st Field Artillery Battalion Soldiers on the Russian designed Avtomat Kalashnikov-47 and Rocket Propelled Grenade-7 launcher, both used and manufactured in Bulgaria. Last week, guardsmen showed Bulgarians to fire U.S. made M-16 weapons.

Bulgarian Land Forces special forces unit train in lifesaving skills with US Army

Members of the Bulgarian Land Forces 68th Special Forces Brigade conducted Combat Lifesaver training and medical evacuation procedures Aug. 13 at Novo Selo Training Area. Bulgarian and U.S. units executed the last stage of the three-day training in peacekeeping operations.

Platoon-level combined training starts today

 

11 August 2009

Platoons from the Bulgarian and U.S. companies participating in the combined military training at Novo Selo Training Area have started their combined training. During the next two days, the training will be conducted on rotation.

The troops will train in peacekeeping operations which include: operations required at contact with opposing forces and ambush; Humvee rollover exit procedures; tactics during artillery fire; casualty evacuation; entering and clearing of buildings and rooms (Military Operations in Urban Terrain), etc.

The U.S. Army National Guard Tennessee Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Gus Hargett, Jr. visited his troops participating in the training.

Combat Lifesaver training has started today with the participation of members of Bulgarian Land Forces 68th Special Forces Brigade and U.S. Army medical instructors. It included classes and training in chest trauma and control bleeding.

Renovated disabled persons community center reopens

U.S. Army Lt. Col. David E. Hurley, commander of Joint Task Force- East, Bulgaria and Mr. Toncho Tonchev, director of the center for disabled persons “Dame Gruev” in Sliven, took part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the renovated center on Aug. 10. The reopening ceremony was attended by U.S. Navy Builder 2nd Class Derek Brewer and other members of the U.S. Naval Construction Battalion 11 out of Gulfport, Miss., who worked side by side with troops of the Bulgarian Land Forces of the Sliven Center for Preparation of Tank Specialists. Citizens who frequent the center for disabled persons were among the invited.

Bulgarian and US forces begin small firearms, simulator training

Platoons from Bulgarian Land Forces 4th Artillery Regiment of Assenovgrad, and U.S. Army Army Tennessee National Guard started combined training Aug. 8 at Novo Selo Training Area. The troops are conducting rotational trainings in small firearms, simulated weapons engagement to and Humvee rollover exit procedures.

The small firearms training includes the standard company trainings and the rest include use of following simulators: HMMWV Egress Assistance Trainer and Engagement to Skills Trainer.

Combined Bulgarian, US training starts today

Opening ceremony for combined training of Bulgarian Land Forces and U.S. Army took place today at Novo Selo Training Area.

Official guests included Bulgarian Land Forces Col. Biser Kalinov, Chief Combat Training of the Forces in Headquarters for Preparation of Land Forces, and U.S. Army Col. Gary Russ, U.S. commander for Joint Task Force-East, and Bulgarian Land Forces Lt. Col. Peter Zhelev, commander of Novo Selo Training Area.
