Political Cabinet

The Political Cabinet assists the Minister of Defence in formulating, developing and implementing particular decisions for carrying out the governmental defence policy, and in implementing civilian control of the armed forces.

The Political Cabinet consists of the Deputy Ministers, the Head of the Minister's Office, the Parliamentary Secretary and the Director for Public Relations.

The work of the Cabinet is assisted by advisers, experts, and technical assistants.

Secretary General

The Secretary General carries out the administrative leadership, coordination, and control of the functioning of the General and Specialized Administration of the Ministry of Defence with respect to the strict observation of the laws and the ministerial orders.

In the event of the Secretary General’s absence, his functions shall be assumed by a Director of a Directorate, appointed by the Minister of Defence on a case by case basis.

General Administration

The General Administration assists the exercise of powers of the Minister and the Chief of Defence, facilitates the Specialized Administration and the Defence Staff in the carrying out of their activities, and performs the technical activities relating to administrative servicing.

The General Administration of the Ministry of Defence is organized into three Directorates:

Departmental Service Support Directorate

Specialized Administration

The Specialized Administration is organized into one General Directorate and five Directorates.

The Specialized Administration assists and supports the exercise of powers of the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence, and the Deputy Ministers within the framework of the powers delegated and the functions assigned thereto.

Defence Staff

The Defence Staff is organized in four Directorates.

The Defence Staff supports the Minister of Defence with military expertise in the implementation of the state policy in the field of defence, and the Chief of Defence in the implementation of his commanding authorities with regard to the Bulgarian Armed Forces.
