Participation of Bulgaria in civilian missions and military operations of the EU (2003 – 2010)

    • EU Military Operation in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (fYROM/CONCORDIA) (March-December 2003): Bulgaria participated with one staff officer in Skopje HQ
    • European Union Police Mission (EUPM) in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) (January 2003 – until present): Bulgaria has participated since the beginning of the mission. Currently, Bulgaria has sent two officers from the Ministry of Interior.
    • EU Military Operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (EUFOR ALTHEA) (December 2004 – until present): Bulgarian Armed Forces continue their participation in the operation with a 120-strong contingent.
    • The European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) (February 2008 – until present): Bulgaria participates with 49-strong contingent comprised of experts from the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Justice
    • EU Border Assistance Mission to the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine (November 2005 – until present): Bulgaria has sent an assistant to the Head of the Mission from the Customs Agency
    • EU Police mission in Afghanistan (EUPOL AFGHANISTAN) aiming at the establishment of civilian policing arrangements and the rule of law (June 2007 – until present): Bulgaria participates with one military serviceman (representative of the Military Police Service)
    • European Union Integrated Rule of Law Mission for Iraq (EUJUST LEX) (July 2005 – until present): Bulgaria organizes the conduct of two trainings within the scope of the mission tasks
    • EU Police Mission in the Palestinian Territories (EUPOL COPPS) (January 2006 – until present): Bulgaria participates with one representative from the Ministry of Interior
    • Military Bridging Operation EUFOR Tchad/RCA in eastern Chad and the north-east of the Central African Republic (January 2008 – until present): Bulgaria has sent 2 staff officers to Mont Valérien, Paris, France, and to Abéché, Chad
    • The European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in Georgia (October 2008 – until present): Bulgaria participates with 11 military personnel, distributed in Tbilisi, Gori and Zugdidi
    • Operation ATALANTA, the European Union’s Naval Force (EUNAVFOR) counter-piracy operation in the Gulf of Aden and Somali Basin (December 2008 – until present): Bulgaria participates with one staff officer in Northwood, UK
