CALL FOR PRESS ACCREDITATION TO SOUTH-EASTERN EUROPE DEFENCE MINISTERIAL ANNUAL MEETING

The Annual Meeting of South-Eastern Europe Ministers of Defence will be held on October 21st in Sofia. The event will be opened at 09:00 in Boyana Residence (Home 2).

The Forum coincides with the Bulgarian Chairmanship of the South-Eastern Europe Defence Ministerial Meetings Process (SEDM). The event involves discussions and decision making on SEDM framework initiatives implementation, including South-Eastern Europe Multinational Peace Force (MPFSEE) activities.

The journalists who would like to cover the event should be accredited no later than October 18th 2009 by filling the attached Media Accreditation Form and sending it at the following address: presscntr@mod.bg. Press badges can be collected on October 20th from 15:30 to 17:00 h in the Ministry of Defence Information Center (106 “Rakovski” str., Sofia) as well as on October 21st from 08:00 h at Boyana Residence entrance.

Meeting of Minister Nikolay Mladenov with Marc Michielsen, Ambassador of Belgium to Bulgaria

The Minister of Defence Nikolay Mladenov received today H.E. Marc Michielsen, Ambassador of Belgium to Bulgaria. The current state of bilateral relations was highly evaluated by Minister Mladenov. He also expressed firm belief in the future development of mutually beneficial contacts. Special attention was devoted to the further use and logistic support for the military ships, acquired from Belgium – the frigates “Gordi” and Verni”, as well as the minehunter “Zibar”.

 

Meetings of MPFSEE/Politico-Military Steering Committee and South-Eastern Europe Defence Ministerial Process Coordination Committee (SEDM-CC) Sofia, September 28th – 30th 2009

Starting today, September 28th to September 30th 2009, Bulgarian Ministry of Defence at “Boyana” Residence will host the PSMC/MPFSEE and SEDM-CC Meetings. In the course of the event will be discussed issues connected with the South-Eastern Europe security and stability process development, the build-up of SEEBRIG operational capabilities and the preparation of the forthcoming SEDM Ministers of Defence Meeting to be held on October 21st 2009 in Sofia, Bulgaria. The Forum will gather representatives of SEDM participant states, NATO Regional Commands, OSCE and other international organizations.

Bulgaria took over the rotational Chairmanship of South-Eastern Europe Defence Ministerial on July 15th 2009 and until mid-2011 will provide leadership and guidance for the main activities and initiatives.

Meeting of Minister Nikolay Mladenov with Danijela Barisic, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to Bulgaria 1st October 2009

The Minister of Defence Nikolay Mladenov received today H.E. Danijela Barisic, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to the Republic of Bulgaria.

In the course of the talks, the Minister of Defence expressed a high opinion of the current state of bilateral relations and readiness for a more dynamic dialogue. Special attention was devoted to the participation of both countries in missions abroad, the perspectives of bilateral defence cooperation and the interaction in the regional security initiatives and processes.

1 October 2009, The Minister of Defence Nikolay Mladenov received an Armenian military delegation led by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian armed forces, General Yuri Hachaturov

The two exchanged opinions on the situation in Southern Caucasus. They also assessed the bilateral cooperation between the ministries of defence, and the spheres of cooperation for the next year. The Armenian delegation visited 4-th Artillery regiment and the helicopter airbase in Krumovo. Later today, the delegation will visit “G. S. Rakovski” Defence Academy where it will have a meeting with its leadership.

 

Today, 30.09.2009 the Minister of Defence Nikolay Mladenov and the new appointed Ambassador of Federal Republic Germany Mathias Hoepfner met in the Ministry of Defence

They discussed issues, related to the participation of both countries in missions abroad and to the bilateral defence cooperation. Mr. Mladenov and His Excellency Hoepfner will work for strengthening the partnership between the defence ministries of Bulgaria and Germany and for an intensive political dialogue.

 

General Simeon Simeonov, Chief of Defence, Republic of Bulgaria, will host an official visit of Colonel-General Yuri Khachaturov, chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, starting 29 September, 2009

General Simeon Simeonov, Chief of Defence, Republic of Bulgaria, will host an official visit of Colonel-General Yuri Khachaturov, chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, starting 29 September, 2009. General Simeonov and Colonel-General Khachaturov will review the status of bilateral military cooperation between the two countries and will discuss possible future cooperation projects. The program of the visit includes also visits to military sites.

 

2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment arrives at Novo Selo for training

NOVO SELO TRAINING AREA, Bulgaria – U.S. Army 2nd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, out of Vilseck, Germany, begins training here Aug. 19.

The 2nd SCR will train in three cycles following the rotation of U.S. Army Tennessee National Guard 1-181st Field Artillery Battalion. By the end of the final rotation of JTF-E, the whole squadron will have participated.

This unit will be training on fundamental mission tasks with Bulgarian Land Forces helping build military partnerships during this three-week cycle. Each cycle will consist of squad-, platoon- and company-level training of troops. Participants will engage simulated enemies while mounted on and dismounted from Stryker vehicles, which are eight-wheeled armored combat vehicles.
